Career Over for Former Montreal Canadiens Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu
Beaulieu, now 32 years old, was a 6-foot-2, 202-pound left-shot defenseman.
A first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2011 (17th overall), he finished his NHL career with 98 points in 471 games, including 12 goals.
Nathan Beaulieu announces his retirement from the NHL and professional hockey at the age of 32.
Beaulieu's time with the Canadiens ended on June 17, 2017, when he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2017 draft.
With that pick, the Canadiens selected defenseman Scott Walford, who never played in the NHL (53 games in the AHL total).
Beaulieu's best season came in 2016-17, the year before he was traded to Buffalo, when he posted 28 points in 74 games with the Canadiens and finished with a +8 rating.
Beaulieu's most recent NHL stint was in the 2022-23 season, when he played 52 games with the Anaheim Ducks.
Since then, he has played in the KHL and in Switzerland's top league.
