One of the rising stars within the Montreal Canadiens organization's management team, Vincent Lecavalier, has told a rather incredible story.

He spoke about the time he almost got traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In fact, he actually had been traded to the Leafs.
Let's recall that shortly after being hired as general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes immediately brought Vincent Lecavalier on board.
He hired him just a few weeks after arriving as GM in Montreal.
And in recent times, Lecavalier seems to be taking on an increasingly important role within the organization, notably playing a key part in bringing young Ivan Demidov to town.

Vincent Lecavalier reveals he had been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs

You read that right.
While appearing on the Leafs Morning Take podcast, Vincent Lecavalier shared the story of the time he had been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It was in 2001.. He had been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a deal that reportedly involved, among others, Tomas Kaberle as well as Jonas Hoglund and Nik Antropov. Wow.
"The trade was done.

I got a call from my agent Kent Hughes while I was taking my pre-game nap, and he told me I was heading to Toronto and even confirmed that I was supposed to play on the same line as Mats Sundin."

That's huge!
Lecavalier then revealed that Kent Hughes called him back 30 minutes later to tell him that everything had been cancelled.
"According to him, it was the Lightning president at the time who had everything called off."
What a story!
Imagine how unfortunate it would have been for the Montreal Canadiens to have to deal with Vincent Lecavalier in the same division for so long.
