We have bad news to share regarding an injury on offense for the Montreal Canadiens. Kirby Dach was spotted at the Bell Centre wearing a walking boot.
Since then, it has been hard to convince ourselves that a return is imminent.
The Canadiens had announced on November 16 that Dach would miss four to six weeks due to a fracture in his right foot. We are now in January, and the original timeline has been exceeded for quite some time.
On Tuesday, Kent Hughes outright said that the Canadiens have enough depth to be cautious and that they want a return for the remainder of the season.
At this point, it seems to go beyond simple caution, and it is definitely concerning.
Bad news regarding forward Kirby Dach's injury
The uneasiness is that the images and the words are pointing in the same direction. When you see a walking boot, you automatically think of a return that will still have to wait a while.
On the ice, Dach's season had nevertheless started with respectable numbers. He has seven points, including five goals, in 15 games in 2025-26. But the number that really hurts is the accumulation of games missed.
Since the start of 2022-23, he has played only 132 games, all injuries combined. With the Canadiens, his best production remains 2022-23, when he recorded 38 points in 58 games.
In the two following seasons, he played two games in 2023-24, then 57 games in 2024-25. That is where the fans' frustration kicks in, and it is understandable.
Dach is 24 years old, he has talent, but his file is becoming a string of "bad luck."
The good news is that the Canadiens seem intent on avoiding shortcuts.
The bad news is that we are still waiting for a real date, not just hints.
"Spotted at the Bell Centre, Kirby Dach is still moving around with a walking boot on his right foot.
This leads us to believe that his return to action is certainly not imminent.
That said, the Canadiens should provide an update soon."

This is therefore a major situation to monitor, but also one that does not look good at all.
