Martin St-Louis made things clear this morning regarding the murky Patrik Laine situation.
The Canadiens’ head coach was firm during his morning press conference ahead of the game against the Avalanche (or if you prefer, against the Quebec Nordiques).
The Finnish sniper has still not received clearance from the medical department to return to play.
This official statement puts to rest, for now, the whispers suggesting the organization is deliberately delaying his return for administrative reasons.
St-Louis repeated that there is no decision to be made until the doctors give their formal approval.
He used a vivid expression to describe the current situation that is testing fans’ patience.
"When he’s ready, we’ll cross that bridge," he told reporters in Brossard.
For now, the coach is focusing solely on managing the players who are healthy and available.
Patrik Laine, the Jets’ first-round pick (2nd overall) in 2016, continues to practice without being able to jump into game action.

Although the player appears physically ready during practice sessions, the doctors’ verdict remains the only authority.
Some observers doubted the official version, suspecting a strategy tied to the 23-man roster limit.
However, the coach’s message leaves no room for interpretation this morning: the obstacle is indeed medical.
The Canadiens will therefore face the Colorado Avalanche tonight without Laine.
Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports reports that St-Louis’ stance remains consistent: no green light, no game.
"St-Louis reiterated that Laine has still not received medical clearance, so there is no decision to make.

Fans will have to wait a little longer before seeing No. 92 unleash his one-timers in game situations.
Caution remains the watchword in this complex situation.
