Canadiens' New Acquisition Joe Veleno Sends Clear Message to Coach Martin St-Louis
The most recent acquisition by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens up front, center Joe Veleno, has just sent a message to Martin St-Louis.
Indeed, the 25-year-old Quebec forward said he wants to help replace
Joel Armia and
Christian Dvorak, and he's ready to contribute on the penalty kill.
If Veleno can become a solid PK player, it would certainly be very useful for Martin St-Louis and his squad.
"Joe Veleno believes there are opportunities for him on the penalty kill, especially with the loss of two key elements (Christian Dvorak and Joel Armia) in those situations." - DLC
And I think he's absolutely right!
Joe Veleno sends a message to Martin St-Louis confirming he's ready to help the team on the penalty kill if needed
Veleno already had a major role on the PK in the American Hockey League, and he's also been asked to help in those situations in the NHL over the past few seasons.
With the loss of Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak, the Canadiens quietly need to find two new PK players.
Could Veleno be one of them?
"I now take a lot of pride in playing a more defensive style. When you watch the playoffs, everyone needs to be defensively responsible. What I want to be is a complete player, a guy who can be responsible defensively while also chipping in some points here and there."
- Joe Veleno
I can't wait to see how things play out at the next Canadiens training camp this September, but it's clear I'd give Veleno a shot on the penalty kill (at least to start).
He seems ready for the challenge!
