Canadiens make a notable decision in goal ahead of Kent Hughes' press conference
We have another interesting last-minute development, live from Brossard, for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
Tuesday morning, the Habs sent a clear signal in goal as all three goaltenders were present and accounted for at practice.
That confirms at least one thing: no reassignment to the Laval Rocket has been announced.
It is therefore officially the return of the famous three-goalie rotation, even after the road trip.
Samuel Montembeault is in the picture, Jacob Fowler is still with the big club, and Jakub Dobeš has not disappeared from the rotation.
For Fowler, the numbers add weight to the decision to keep him. With the Laval Rocket this season, he holds a 10-5-0 record, a 2.09 goals-against average, and a .919 save percentage.
With the Canadiens, he already has seven games played, a 3-2-2 record, a 2.57 goals-against average, a .903 save percentage, and one shutout.
He is 21 years old, and he can be sent back to Laval without going through waivers.
Kent Hughes makes an initial decision ahead of his major press conference: no goaltender reassigned to Laval
That is where today's press conference indeed becomes interesting.
We are expecting details, because keeping three goaltenders at the same time forces decisions elsewhere and keeps everyone on edge.
The Club also called this mid-season assessment at the right time. After a road trip that ended with a win in Dallas, the mood is better, but the questions remain numerous.
The situation in goal is not the only one in motion, but it is the most visible.
When Montembeault, Fowler, and Dobeš are still together, it automatically becomes a topic for Montreal Canadiens fans.
It will be worth monitoring whether a clear plan is announced, or if the Canadiens continue day by day.
One thing is certain: the presence of all three goaltenders this morning did not happen for nothing.
