For a few days now, there has been a lot of speculation about the young Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman, David Jiricek.

There's a real sense that he will be traded in the next few hours, and it's possible he has already been moved by the time you're reading this article.

In short, his days in Columbus are numbered, and many observers believe he's an ideal target for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

Does the Canadiens already have their own David Jiricek?

Some believe so, including the excellent Anthony Marcotte.

«A defenseman with his style in Montreal? We already have one, a right-handed, big-bodied player with a good shot. His name is Logan Mailloux..»

- Anthony Marcotte

As the voice of the Laval Rocket, Marcotte knows Mailloux very well as a hockey player, and it's really reassuring to hear him say this.

He adds that it's obvious Kent Hughes is right to get involved in this matter because it's his job and because Jiricek is very promising, but the answer might already lie in Laval (with Logan Mailloux).

Do you agree with him?

David Jiricek, 21 years old, has tallied 22 points in his last 33 games in the American Hockey League (plus/minus -13).

Logan Mailloux, also 21, has recorded 61 points in 86 AHL games (plus/minus -6).

Both are right-handed defensemen standing 6 feet 4 inches tall.

It's a situation to watch, but it's true that before giving up everything for a young player like David Jiricek, the Canadiens might consider giving Logan Mailloux a real opportunity with the big club.
