Canadiens drop a clear hint about which goaltender could be odd man out

In a press conference over the last few hours, general manager Kent Hughes confirmed (unsurprisingly) that the team has no intention of keeping three goaltenders in Montreal for very long.

Management knows very well that this is not ideal. So a goaltender will eventually leave the Tricolore... But which one?

Let's just say we've just received a very clear clue.

A press conference has been called for head coach Martin St-Louis, which will provide more details, but everything indicates that Jakub Dobes has been relegated to the number-three chair.

Even though it was Jakub Dobes' turn to be in net, he is now skipping his turn. The Canadiens have made their decision as Fowler starts tonight.

Don't be surprised if he eventually leaves the Montreal Canadiens and is sent down to the Laval Rocket.

Dobes is 24 years old and has just signed a two-year contract. The deal is one-way, with an average annual value of $965,000. It's a contract that stands out because it is simple and easy to manage on the salary cap (and easy to send to the AHL).

But while Fowler is getting starts, the question becomes inevitable.

Does the Canadiens really want to keep three goaltenders up top for long? The answer is no.
