The Habs will be holding their traditional annual golf tournament on September 12th and that's when some observers will finally be able to say that we're getting down to business, as the official training camp will begin a few days later.
And that surprise could very well be the announcement of the team's next captain. We recall that in 2014, the organization took advantage of the annual golf tournament to announce that Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Markov, P.K. Subban and Max Pacioretty were named assistant captains of the Canadiens.
It is possible, because with the departure of Shea Weber and the catastrophic 2021-2022 season, according to some people, it will absolutely take a captain on board next season. The names most often mentioned to succeed Weber are Joel Edmundson, Brendan Gallagher, Josh Anderson and Nick Suzuki.
If Suzuki is currently popular, it seems that the various experts would rather see Edmundson or Gallagher with the "C" on his jersey in order to go through a certain transition and eventually, the number 14 becomes captain in his turn.
