Last night's game between the Minnesota Wild and the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre had an unusually high number of scouts in the press box.
One organization was particularly and exceptionally well represented: the Anaheim Ducks. This is really intriguing.
They sent three representatives yesterday, including a scout, the director of personnel as well as the team's assistant GM. Nothing less.
It's not a coincidence and there is clearly a player they are interested in.
Who is it? It's hard to say at this point, but we wanted to come back and discuss the options.
They recently mentioned that they wanted to add an established forward, ideally a veteran to support all of their youth.
The Montreal Canadiens have several that are obviously available on the trade market, such as Evgeny Dadonov, Mike Hoffman, Jonathan Drouin, Joel Armia, Rem Pitlick and a few others.
With Armia's return to action imminent, one of the above names will have to be dealt, and that could be through a trade. The Ducks probably know this.
By the way, it's worth mentioning that the Anaheim Ducks acquired Dadonov last year, in the famous deal (with the Vegas Golden Knights) that was cancelled by the NHL.
"So the assistant GMs from Edmonton and Anaheim were in the building tonight (at the Bell Centre). This is not pre-scouting personnel. (This is serious stuff)"
"A scout, the director of player personnel and an AGM. That's a whole contingent from Anaheim." - Andrew Zadarnowski
So this is a situation to watch, especially with injuries to some Oilers and Ducks forwards, it becomes more interesting for them to pay the price for a Hoffman, or for a Dadonov. To be continued!
