Signing of a new contract: Major development concerning Samuel Montembeault
During the 2022-2023 season, in addition to shining at the World Hockey Championship a few weeks ago, he led Canada to the gold medal. All hopes are pinned on the Quebec goaltender next year as he aims for nothing less than the number one goalie spot with the Canadiens.
He will play out the last year of his contract in 2023-2024, and as reported by Alexandre Desrosiers of Rumeursdetransaction.com, it appears that discussions about a possible contract extension could start soon.
A major development.
That's at least what Arpon Basu from The Athletic confirmed and that it's not only Kent Hughes' wish but also that of Montembeault.
The latter will be earning a salary of barely $1 million next season, which probably makes him one of the best bargains in the NHL at the moment.
If he were to repeat his impressive performances from last season, he would certainly get a significant salary increase and could even establish himself as one of the NHL's top goaltenders.
By the way, Montembeault was claimed off waivers at the start of the 2021-2022 season when the Florida Panthers didn't think it necessary to keep his services, much like a certain Jonathan Marchessault.
Just saying!
