First of all, former Pittsburgh Penguins' Zach Aston-Reese will try his luck with the Toronto Maple Leafs, as he is tough and very reliable defensively.
Aston-Reese, 28, has 66 points (32 goals) in 230 career games.
Next, Calvin de Haan will get his chance with the Carolina Hurricanes. De Haan, who recently completed a multi-season contract worth over $4.5 million per year, will try to find a new home in the Bettman League as a power play specialist.
Drafted 12th overall in 2009, de Haan, 31, had 8 points in 69 games last season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Also, the San Jose Sharks signed defenseman Scott Harrington, 29, the Penguins' 54th overall pick, to a professional tryout. He has 38 points in 210 career NHL games.
Finally, defenceman Danny DeKeyser will try his luck with the Vancouver Canucks. The 32-year-old veteran has 547 career NHL games, all with the Detroit Red Wings.
Last season, he recorded 11 assists in 59 games.
Kent Hughes made it public that the Canadiens are still looking to add depth on defense, here are a few options left:
1. P.K. Subban - right-handed defenseman
2. Anton Stralman - right-handed defenseman
3. Kris Russell - left-handed defenceman
4. Keith Yandle - left-handed defender
5. Zdeno Chara - left-handed defender
6. Nathan Beaulieu - left-handed defenseman
