More than $7 million dollars for Arber Xhekaj on his next contract?

As we told you earlier this week, some observers are already starting to think about the next contract of the impressive defenseman Arber Xhekaj.

This is notably the case of the excellent Marc Dumont, a former employee of the CH organization.

Xhekaj, 21 years old, keeps getting better and better, and he has recently been praised by some very important people. This obviously means that the longer Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton wait to offer him a contract extension, the higher the price.

At the end of the year, it will officially become an option for the Habs to secure the services of "WiFi" for the longer term, and according to many, it would be brilliant for Kent Hughes to sign a new contract with Xhekaj as soon as possible (precisely to avoid the price going up too much).

It's kind of the same logic with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, but at a lower price.

"We need to extend Xhekaj's contract, in my opinion." - Marc Dumont

Since the topic is really starting to surface in the media and on social media, we decided to bring you a possible comparable, or two, knowing that's exactly what players' agents do.

"WiFi's" contract, worth $828,333 annually, expires in the summer of 2024. So what might his next contract look like?

Two comparable contracts have been identified.

ALEXANDER ROMANOV

Romanov's second contract will most likely be a big target for Xhekaj's agent. Arber is more productive than Romanov (already 12 points in 35 games), but he is less established.

On August 22, Romanov signed a contract worth $7.5 million (3 X $2.5 million) with the New York Islanders.

Is this what awaits Xhekaj? According to some experts, it is quite possible.

BRAYDEN MCNABB

For Xhekaj's next contract, we can also think about the deal signed by Brayden McNabb with the Vegas Golden Knights.

He was a little older, but at age 25, the rugged McNabb (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) signed a four-year contract worth $2.5 million a year.

A salary of $2.5 million per year, for three or four seasons, seems like a realistic number. What do you think?

Do you think the CH should sign Xhekaj, at that price, as soon as possible? Or do you think Kent Hughes can afford to be patient?

One thing is certain, this will be a file to watch closely at the end of the year.
