In the last few hours, all indications are that there has been significant progress in the negotiations between Kent Hughes (Montreal Canadiens) and the camp of new acquisition Kirby Dach.
According to Eric Engels (Sportsnet) yesterday, we now have more details on the possible contract in question.
"As I just mentioned on the air with @MartinLemay at @bpmsportsradio, Elliotte Friedman and I have been asking around about Kirby Dach's status over the past week, and all indications are that one of the options being discussed is a 4-year contract at about $3.5 million per year. I won't be surprised if that's where it lands." - Eric Engels
Normally, when a tipster comes forward like this, it speaks volumes.
Don't be surprised if the Habs do indeed announce (very soon) a four-season, $3.5 million per season contract with Kirby Dach.
It wouldn't go over well:
Dach's great potential is real, but effectively he's at the same stage as Kaapo Kakko, who signed for much less. (however, he is a center player)
In 70 games with the Blackhawks last season, the third overall pick in 2019 had 26 points.
Let's remember, of course, that he was acquired by the Habs in the 2022 draft in Montreal, in the trade involving Alexander Romanov.
Would a 4-year contract at about $3.5 million per year for Kirby Dach be good for the CH, in your opinion?
