Earlier today, insider Kevin Weekes revealed one of his famous important exclusive pieces of information.
A major development regarding the trade market:
"Keep an eye on,
I'm told the Senators are actively actively seeking a trade of D Zaitsev. They've granted permission to his representatives to speak with clubs. My understanding is Sens willing to move high draft pick or a prospect to accommodate trade.
- Kevin Weekes
So it would be a trade similar to the one made between the Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames involving Sean Monahan.
The Ottawa Sens would be willing to offer a solid draft pick, or a good prospect, with Nikita Zaitsev, for future considerations.
Considering recent similar trades in the NHL, the price for Ottawa will most likely be a first round pick (or a second round pick + a prospect)
IN OTTAWA -
Future Considerations
ELSEWHERE -
Nikita Zaitsev + top 10 protected first round pick
or
Nikita Zaitsev + second round pick + prospect
How would you like to see that "ELSE" be the Montreal Canadiens? How would you like to see Kent Hughes complete this type of transaction? Well, he's made it clear that he's open to doing so and that's why we're telling you about it.
Obviously, the main benefit here for the Sens would be to free up space under the payroll. On the other hand, a team could acquire a solid draft pick and/or prospect for free.
Zaitsev, 31, is a right-handed defenseman with three points in 19 games this season, 11 points in 62 games last season, and 36 points in 82 games in his rookie season. The catch is that he makes $4.5 million a year through 2024.
Something to keep an eye on, but it could certainly be an interesting opportunity for Kent Hughes or his 30 other counterparts around the NHL.
