Earlier today, the Pittsburgh Penguins organization announced that Quebec defenseman Kris Letang would not be present for today's Winter Classic matchup against the Boston Bruins.
After first citing personal reasons, the organization then released this:
"Coach Sullivan announced that Kris Letang, who has a lower body injury, will not play tonight. He added that Kris' father passed away and he has gone home to be with his family.
Coach Sullivan: "We want to express our deepest and most sincere sympathy to him during this time." "
"Kristopher Letang's father passed away yesterday and he is with his family in the Montreal area. My sincere condolences to the family and friends." - Renaud Lavoie
We are talking about a sudden death here:
This is so sad, and we are sending as many positive vibes as possible to Kris Letang and his family at this very difficult time for them.
Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Letang did indeed have to leave the Penguins organization in a hurry. He would have joined his family in Montreal.
Let's just say Letang hasn't had it easy lately, and our hearts go out to him.
