As injuries strike the Montreal Canadiens hard once again, and as the team has just lost the services of another forward for several weeks (Tanner Pearson), reinforcements are needed.

The logical name would be Joshua Roy, but the CH bosses seem determined to let the youngsters properly develop in Laval, which is not necessarily a bad thing by the way.

So, who could be called up?

The excellent Anthony Marcotte has a solid suggestion.

'Brandon Gignac is closer than ever to getting an NHL contract with the Canadiens. He has greatly improved his consistency, has become a more reliable player in his own zone, and remains a threatening speed merchant. He is now 10th in scoring in the AHL.'

'If the CH wants to continue letting its younger players develop down below, they will have no choice but to consider a veteran like Gignac if injuries continue to pile up. It would be a great story if he managed to sign in the NHL after two and a half seasons in Laval.'

Gignac, who is on a one-way AHL contract, is aiming for an opportunity in the NHL, including with the Canadiens.

Ranked the tenth best scorer in the AHL, the 26-year-old Quebecer shines with 22 points in 23 games, placing him at the top of the team's points leaders.

Should Kent Hughes sign him with the CH and call him up? Or would you prefer to see a young player like Joshua Roy?
