Since his acquisition in June 2017, Jonathan Drouin has been one of the CH's unloved ones. His big contract as well as the overblown expectations of him becoming the club's top center have not helped his transition to the city. Not to mention the numerous injuries he suffered while playing for the CH, which didn't help his development on the ice.
However, the Quebecer has done very well since his return to the game a few games ago. He is consistent and is playing his best hockey since he has been wearing the Blue-White-Red uniform. This is great news for Kent Hughes who could pass on him in a trade by the deadline in order not to lose him for nothing this summer.
On that note, the rumors and speculation are starting to come out. A journalist from Minnesota, Kalisha Townsell Turnipseed, even suggested earlier this month that the Wild should acquire the CH number 27.
"While Drouin hasn't had the best career, he produces when it matters most. The playoffs are the most important time of the season to show what you can do. Forget his rookie year, 0 points in six games averaging 10:02 a night, and his numbers are extremely solid."
"In his last 27 playoff games, Drouin has six goals and 21 points, which translates to an 82-game pace of 18 goals and 64 points. Drouin's previous playoff appearance came in the 2019-20 season. During his career, he averaged 0.58 points per game in the regular season and 0.64 in the playoffs. After missing a Cup run, he will be motivated to win and, the Wild have a great locker room that can help him." - Kalisha Townsell Turnipseed
If Drouin remains healthy, he can be a very good option for the Wild or any other formation, in the picture of the playoffs. We must also not forget in all this, as the journalist reminds us, that Drouin is a 3rd overall pick of the draft of 2013, behind Nathan MacKinnon and Aleksander Barkov.
As a return, Townsell Turnipseed mentions that Bill Guerin could offer Ryan Hartman to the CH. The 28-year-old forward has a $1.7M contract for another season. The journalist thinks that the Canadiens would like to have his team spirit and his versatility.
It will certainly take more for Kent Hughes to accept this deal but, the basics are good. The addition of a draft pick or a young prospect could tempt the CH DG more than just acquiring Hartman...
