In a recent column on BPM Sports' Jean-Charles Lajoie show, the excellent Bob Hartley called for a big change regarding Kirby Dach.
According to the former head coach, Dach's role could eventually change, in the long run, with the Montreal Canadiens.
See his explanation:
"I found that Kirby Dach defensively, in the long run it might not be a bad decision to put Dach on the wing and reinsert Monahan at center because in defensive zone coverage right now, it's not very fancy for Kirby Dach." - Bob Hartley
"At training camp I was looking at that, and I said: that's not a center that guy, I don't know what we're playing, that's not a center, they got it wrong. I think that they see him bigger than Jesus, but in my opinion they have not understood that Christ died 2000 years ago. It's hard at the center of the face-offs, it has no authority, it doesn't make sense." - Jean-Charles Lajoie
It's true that on top of all that, Dach is struggling in the faceoff circle, he has a disappointing 29.4% efficiency rate so far this season.
Other than that, he is still a great forward! Would he be more useful on the wing, especially with the surplus of centers in Montreal? It's an interesting question, but we mustn't forget that he is only 21 years old and that he can still improve as a center.
The one who was acquired for Alex Romanov remains a very interesting and promising player.
If it was your decision, would you play him on the wing or at center?
