This famous story involving Corey Perry, who made a gesture that led to his expulsion from the Chicago Blackhawks, has surprisingly resurfaced.
Corey Perry, who is now with the Edmonton Oilers and enjoying a well-deserved new opportunity, recently made headlines in Chicago.
We thought the page was turned and that we would never hear about it again, but no.
Via an article by journalist Mark Lazerus, from Chicago, he was asked if he knew more about what really happened when Perry's contract was terminated by the Hawks in November 2023.
We all remember the wild rumors about this.
A Chicago journalist has just revisited the story involving Corey Perry
In short, the most credible version mentions an incident "involving alcohol" that occurred in Columbus after a game against the Blue Jackets, and which also allegedly involved another member of the Chicago Blackhawks staff. (a female employee, according to some)
See journalist Lazerus' response, published just hours ago:
«My poker friends, my cardiologist, and my own family have all asked me what really happened.'
My answer is always the same: we mentioned publicly what we could report publicly.
Do we know more than you? Yes.
But the bar is very high when it comes to sensitive stories like this.
Until we have all the details of the story, supported and corroborated by sufficient sources, we will report none of it. And we may never do so.»
«A better question, which I really want to know: what do the Edmonton Oilers know? I'm just scratching the surface here. I'll soon have part 2 of the answers.»
- Mark Lazerus
He makes an important point here, as he seems to believe that even the Edmonton Oilers do not know what really happened.
In short, the full text is here if you are interested, but personally, I think we can move on:
Corey Perry, 39 years old, has accumulated 13 points in 38 games with the Edmonton Oilers in 2024, plus 3 points in 19 playoff games.
He is under contract with them until 2025, at $1.15 million per year.
