We told you about it yesterday, the hockey world was shocked to learn that the Los Angeles Kings decided to place the name of goaltender Cal Petersen on waivers.

The different teams of the NHL could acquire him for free, and it instantly became a very attractive option for clubs looking for a goalie.

Petersen seems to have lost his confidence this season, but he was really seen as a rising star in front of the Kings net.

The verdict is in.

Cal Petersen (LA) clears waivers. Expect him to be assigned to AHL Ontario.

Since yesterday afternoon, many Montreal Canadiens fans and analysts have been discussing the possibility of Kent Hughes claiming goalie Cal Petersen. Less than two years ago, Petersen was effectively identified as a future NHL all-star goalie and was an untouchable with the Kings.

In fact, he was the one who chased Jack Campbell out of Los Angeles.

Goalies like Robin Lehner once suggested that he was a top five goalie in the world (Petersen) and he seemed to be on the same trajectory as a Jake Oettinger or an Ilya Sorokin.

Petersen started his career with two amazing rookie seasons (0.924 and 0.922% efficiency in 2020 behind bad teams). Since then, things have gotten tough for Petersen and he seems to have completely lost his confidence.

He has a 5-3-2 record this season with the Kings and a 3.75 goals-against average.
