Trade market: surprise revelation regarding Kirby Dach and the Vancouver Canucks

Despite a bit of a downturn in the last few weeks, we have to say that the acquisition of Kirby Dach was a brilliant move on the part of Kent Hughes.

The Habs forward is on pace for the best season of his young career with 23 points, including five goals in 39 games this season.

But did you know that Dach almost never came to Montreal?

As reported by Philippe Chênevert of Habsolumentfan.com, reporter Rick Dhaliwal, who covers the Vancouver Canucks for The Athletic, recently mentioned that the Canucks were very interested in acquiring Kirby Dach in the last NHL draft held at the Bell Centre last July.

Before he was traded to the Canadiens, the Canucks were also one of the teams very interested in the Blackhawks forward.

We even learn that the Canucks really tried to beat the Habs' offer.

The journalist came back on the subject lately, because the Canucks seem to be very active in the Alexis Lafrenière file and that, still according to Dhaliwal, the young forward of the Rangers and Dach are the type of players that the Canucks are currently looking for.

It's unclear what Vancouver would have offered the Blackhawks to acquire Dach, but it's very interesting that other NHL teams were interested in adding the third overall pick in 2019 to their roster.

This means that many general managers still believe in Dach's potential, and fortunately for Habs fans, #77 now lines up with the blue white and red jersey since this fall.
