Trade canceled at the last second for Tony DeAngelo: the real reason has just been revealed

A few weeks ago, renowned hockey insiders announced that a transaction involving Tony DeAngelo had been finalized.

This one sent the defender to the Carolina Hurricanes, and it was necessary to wait until July 8 to officially conclude it under the order of the NHL.


This transaction was eventually canceled, and the Flyers chose, instead of trading the defender, to simply buy out his contract.


With this move, Daniel Brière will save $3.33 million on his payroll this season, but will be cut by $1.667 million next season.


We remember that the NHL had delayed the transaction, as it had not yet been a year since DeAngelo had moved from the Canes to the Flyers. That's why the date of July 8 was targeted!

It seems that it was not only the NHL that put obstacles in the way of both teams, but also the owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, Tom Dundon. The owner would at least have had a role to play in the final decision of his GM.



DeAngelo can now offer his services to any team in the league. However, he is known to have a bad reputation. He left the New York Rangers organization following a physical altercation with goalie Alexandar Georgiev. He has also often been seen as intolerant, as he allegedly made disrespectful remarks to Georgiev and K'Andre Miller.
