Tomas Tatar has just confirmed a big rumor

If some would like to see the Slovak forward with the CH at a low salary, the excellent Elliotte Friedman recently mentioned another option. He said that the Pittsburgh Penguins should not be overlooked in this case.
Journalist Tomáš Prokop recently spoke with the player in question, and when he mentioned the possibility of joining the Pens, Tatar smiled. The former CH admitted that he is currently in intensive talks with several clubs at the moment. It seems that Pittsburgh is among these teams.
"Tomas Tatar admitted that he was in intensive talks with several clubs. It will probably be a one-year contract; he revealed nothing specific, he smiled when asked about Pittsburgh."
We can therefore possibly forget about the idea of seeing him in the Montreal Canadiens uniform again.
Tatar, who was recently back home to accept the Slovak hockey player of the year award for this year, spent the last two seasons with the New Jersey Devils after signing a $9 million contract for two years with them in 2021.
The 32-year-old winger recorded 35 goals, 43 assists for a total of 78 points in 158 games with New Jersey, bouncing back well in his second year after a rather mediocre 2021-22 campaign. With unparalleled defensive presence often underestimated, Tatar received a few votes for the Selke Trophy in 2022-23, for the first time in his career, after showing a differential of +41, and a very strong Corsi of 57.3% at even strength.
However, it is intriguing to see the Penguins betting on another veteran. According to Capfriendly, the Pennsylvania organization currently only has three forwards under 30 years old, in Drew O'Connor (25 years old), Alexander Nylander (25 years old), and Rem Pitlick (26 years old). A little youth on offense might do them more good than adding Tatar, but, well, that's my opinion.
