Speculation: Could Jeff Gorton hit a home run for the CH this summer by signing an all-star player, like he did with Artemi Panarin

Since the arrival of the new Habs staff, we have heard the word rebuilding, even if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have only uttered it a few times since they took office.

Despite a certain turnaround this season, the Habs are much closer to the first pick in the next draft than to the playoffs, but you have to admit that there is still a promising future in Montreal.

But let's go back to Jeff Gorton. When he was the boss with the New York Rangers, he had sent an open letter to the team's fans saying that the organization was rebuilding. This was in the spring of 2018, and yet, a year later, Gorton brought to the Big Apple a certain Artemi Panarin, the most coveted free agent player. in the summer of 2019.

Since then, the Rangers have been back to their best and reached the East finals last year. Let's just say that for a rebuild, it was pretty quick.

Could the Habs follow the same path as the Rangers and bring in a major independent player next year?

As Vincent Fournier of Let's Go Habs.com reports, a certain David Pastrnak will be as free as a bird next summer, and he's reportedly making very high salary demands on his next contract.

But to be honest with you, I highly doubt that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's plan will change, at least in the short term, and in any case, it's a safe bet that the Bruins' #88 will sign a contract extension with them.

However, nothing will stop the Habs from being able to sign a big name free agent in the next few years and who knows, if the Habs could have a competitive team sooner than expected, it would be a great opportunity to attract a big name on the free agent market.

We'll keep our fingers crossed.
