Phenomenon Connor Bedard involved in a monster deal in the next few hours? Deadline fast approaching
As we've been reporting for the past few hours, there is a lot of action in the various junior leagues across the country as trade deadlines are officially today.
Shane Wright was involved in a monster trade late last night.Could Connor Bedard be next? The question is definitely worth asking:
"Today is the day that the OHL and WHL transactions end.
The Regina Pats have vowed that they will not trade Connor Bedard, but hey... to be continued!" - Mikaël Lalancette
The Regina Pats have vowed that they will not trade Connor Bedard, but hey... to be continued!" - Mikaël Lalancette
But why would the Pats trade Bedard? Simple.
They currently sit in 7th place overall in the WHL (out of 12) despite having Bedard on their club.
Basically, they don't have the team to win the WHL championship, let alone the team to go to the Memorial Cup.
So it would make sense for them to trade Bedard for 14 draft picks if they have to, and thus secure the future of their organization for the very long term. Let's face it, Bedard will definitely not be back in the WHL next year anyway.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has even suggested that the Pats may receive some outside pressure to trade Bedard, so that he can compete in a major event like the Memorial Cup.
A Memorial Cup without Connor Bedard would certainly not be ideal, and it would certainly be less interesting than a Memorial Cup with Bedard (and there would be obvious financial implications for the organization).
So this is a file to follow with attention today. Would you like Bedard to be traded to a contending team? Imagine the return!
