P.K. Subban has finally revealed the real reason behind his trade from Montreal

P.K. Subban's name keeps coming up, especially with his tribute night coming up at the Bell Centre, and in the last few hours we've learned some good ones.

It has to do with the famous events of 2016, when Subban was traded to the Nashville Preds by general manager Marc Bergevin in a memorable deal (in return for Shea Weber).

As Mark Suciu reports, yesterday, Subban was a guest on The Pivot Podcast and he went on to make some very interesting revelations.

First and foremost, P.K. explained that he considers himself extremely lucky to have been drafted by a prestigious team like the Montreal Canadiens. However, he concedes that it comes with its own set of challenges:



So the dynamic former Habs defenseman admits that he (sort of) fell victim to the same fate as some of the former stars who came before him to Montreal.

That's what led to his trade.


Interesting. So there was already some questioning from the start, and Subban goes on to explain that this is squarely what led to his trade.

He mentions that his name, and his brand, were taking up too much space within the organization. So his trade would have, in a way, refocused attention on the Montreal Canadiens (and less on individuals like Subban).

It should be noted here that he really doesn't mean this in a negative way. He understands the logic perfectly and Subban is the first to praise the culture and history of the Montreal Canadiens.
