Now that his season is over, Hughes reveals what the real plan was with Juraj Slafkovsky

At a press conference this afternoon, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes agreed to reveal what the plan was with the team's young first overall pick, Juraj Slafkovsky.

When asked if the team was planning to send Slafkovsky to the American Hockey League with the Laval Rocket, see the honest answer from the GM:

"Honestly, we had discussions every week or two about whether we should, for Juraj Slafkovsky's development, send him to the American Hockey League, but in the end, we didn't feel that was the best solution for him.

What we're trying to do is help him understand how he can be most successful here in North America, and that's not necessarily natural for him, so we think his development will be in stages." - Kent Hughes

Let's also remember that, this afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens announced that Slafkovsky will unfortunately have to miss three months of action due to a lower body injury that does not require surgery.

His rookie season with the CH would therefore be over.

Slafkovsky, 18, has 10 points (4 goals) in 39 games with the Montreal Canadiens.
