Major turnaround today: Kent Hughes and the CH could have the chance to acquire young Jesse Puljujarvi for free

On Tuesday night, the Edmonton Oilers decided to leave young forward Jesse Puljujarvi in the stands. It didn't take much for the trade rumors to become the topic of the hour on social networks.

The solution for the Oilers, however, could be even more radical in order to part with the Finn. According to Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek, he could very well end up on the block sooner rather than later.

The man who was selected 4th overall in the 2016 draft by the Oilers has been a major disappointment since his arrival in the league. In 308 games in the NHL, he has accumulated 50 goals and 58 assists for a total of 108 points. This is far below the expectations of the Oilers' management.

The reason why Ken Holland can't trade him might be his current contract. The forward earns a salary of $3M per year and will be an RFA, with the right to arbitration, next summer. He will definitely not take a pay cut despite his poor performance. So, the team that will have his rights will certainly have tough negotiations with him.

It will be interesting to see if the Oilers will use the waivers solution to get out of this contract. If so, there is no doubt that the CH will be an observer in this file. There have been many rumours linking Puljujarvi to the CH in recent years. A tryout for the rest of the season with the club, for free, couldn't hurt. Especially with the team's injury list growing by the day!

Imagine if, in the end, Kent Hughes has the opportunity to acquire Puljujarvi for free. A file to follow in the next few hours. It could happen as soon as today, at 2:00 pm ( Puljujarvi on waivers).
