«Kent Hughes laughing right regarding Panthers situation»

«KENT HUGHES MUST BE LAUGHING HIS ASS OFF RIGHT NOW REGARDING THE PANTHERS SITUATION»

JUN 22, 2022  (19H37)      MARCO
With the recent trades made by the Montreal Canadiens at the most recent NHL trade deadline, Montreal fans have a little extra reason to keep an eye on what's happening in Florida (due to the Ben Chiarot trade)

We told you about it earlier, today, the Florida Panthers made a special and unexpected decision, as they announced they had turned their back on Andrew Brunette.

Brunette, who was extremely well liked by his players, will not be back as head coach of the Panthers, even though he was nominated as a finalist for the 2022 Jack Adams Trophy, given to the NHL's most outstanding head coach.

This has implications for Montreal, according to some:

Indeed, as part of the trade that sent Ben Chiarot to Florida, the CH received (in exchange) the Panthers' 2023 first round pick, which is unprotected.

That's what we need to remember here.

Kent Hughes was certainly laughing his ass off today, according to some:

"I'm sure Kent Hughes, who has Florida's unprotected 1st round pick in 2023, is smiling right now." - Jared Book

Book is the associate editor of the popular "Habs Eyes on the Prize" site.

He says the Panthers just got weaker at the head coach level and that's got to make Hughes laugh:

Add to that the fact that they are likely to lose the services of Claude Giroux, Ben Chiarot and a few other elements.

On top of that, they will trade goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and may have to hold back a big chunk of his salary. That's going to hurt.

Personally, I don't think it's that much of a game changer, especially since Paul Maurice is a good head coach, but know that many experts believe the Montreal Canadiens are winners from this controversial move.

WAS THE BEN CHIAROT TRADE TO FLORIDA THE BEST KENT HUGHES MADE SO FAR?
