Good news for Hughes and the Canadiens regarding the trade with the Panthers last March

With the World Junior Hockey Championship in full swing, and with young Connor Bedard continuing to impress and make history, it's absolutely trendy to keep an eye on the Florida Panthers.

Why is that? Simply because the Montreal Canadiens own the Panthers' 2023 first round (unprotected) pick, thanks to the Ben Chiarot deal, completed by Kent Hughes in March 2022.

Against all odds, the Panthers are having a tougher than expected season and are truly on track to miss the playoffs, and their pick is on track to become an interesting lottery pick.

Even if the Panthers win the lottery, and even if their pick becomes a first, second or third overall pick in 2023, that selection remains the exclusive property of the Montreal Canadiens.

On that note, Kent Hughes and Tricolore fans just received more good news. The Panthers just lost, once again in regulation time, to the New York Rangers, 5-3.

Their slide in the standings continues:

"5th loss in 6 games for the Panthers.
Florida fan looking at lottery odds."

- Marc-André Perreault, TVA Sports

The Panthers are now 23rd overall in the NHL standings, and the five teams closely behind them have games in hand on them.

It looks extremely good for the CH.

Imagine if the Panthers' pick becomes a top-3 pick! That would be huge for the CH!
