As my excellent colleague Keven Mawn reports, we now have some interesting new information regarding last night's major trade involving star player Bo Horvat.

Remember that some observers were calling for Kent Hughes to make inquiries to possibly try to acquire Horvat, including Yvon Pedneault.

We agree that Horvat is a solid player (and an exemplary teammate) and he would certainly have been incredible for the Montreal Canadiens, but the problem seemed to be the price.

The price that some people, including Sportsnet, were saying was way too high for the vast majority of Habs fans.

In the offer proposed by Sportsnet, for Horvat, the Habs were sending:

David Savard, prospects Owen Beck and Jayden Struble as well as a first round pick in 2023 (the one acquired from the Panthers in the Ben Chiarot deal) plus a third round pick in 2024.

Finally, the day after Bo Horvat was traded to the New York Islanders, we have our answer.

The price tag for Kent Hughes now known.

Patrik Bexell of Habs Eyes On The Prize predicted the return Kent Hughes would have to give in order to acquire Horvat.

See the result:

Essentially Montreal would have had to give up Jonathan Drouin, Filip Mešár and the 1st round Florida pick for Bo Horvat.

I can't really say I would have done that in this time of the rebuild, or retool.

How about you, would you have done it?
