This is concerning for the team's future, but at the same time, it also highlights that Samuel Montembeault is truly underrated.
According to the results of this ranking, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Igor Shesterkin, and Ilya Sorokin are the top three goaltenders in the world, followed by Connor Hellebuyck (4), Juuse Saros (5), Jake Oettinger (6), Linus Ullmark (7), Thatcher Demko (8), Jeremy Swayman (9), and Sergei Bobrovsky (completing the top 10).
As for the Canadiens, their highest-ranked goaltender is surprisingly placed at the 41st spot, and that is Jake Allen.
The segment goes as follows:
40- Pavel Francouz
41- Jake Allen (HABS)
42- Anton Forsberg
43- Laurent Brossoit
44- Alex Nedeljkovic
45- Kaapo Kahkonen
46- Alex Lyon
47- Samuel Montembeault (HABS)
48- Jonathan Quick
49- Yaroslav Askarov
50- Casey DeSmith
The Montreal Canadiens are thus ranked as the team with the least favorable goaltending situation in the entire NHL.
It's worth mentioning that Thatcher Demko, placed at the 8th spot, is available on the trade market and has been linked to the Habs. However, we don't fully agree with the 47th position given to Montembeault.
We look forward to seeing him prove his critics wrong and show that he's much better than that.
Montembeault, 26 years old, stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 214 pounds. Last season, he won 16 out of his 40 games played, with an average of 3.42 and a save percentage of 0.901.
