COLE CAUFIELD BREAKS HIS SILENCE REGARDING HIS FUTURE AND HIS NEXT CONTRACT WITH THE CH
BY MARCO
The Canadiens' forward will have to undergo shoulder surgery and we can say goodbye to the first 40+ goal season by a Canadiens' player since Vincent Damphousse in 1993-1994.
Despite this catastrophe for the Canadiens organization, there is another file that has been the talk of the town for the past few weeks, that is the next contract of Caufield.
With 26 goals in 46 games this season, we can expect the American forward to get a real fortune, if we believe the contract that the Minnesota Wild gave earlier this week to young Matthew Boldy, drafted three spots before Caufield in the 2019 draft.
Boldy got a seven-year deal valued at $49 million, leading many experts to believe that the Habs' next maverick contract shouldn't go below that.
However, as reported by David St-Jean of Marqueur.com, it's known that the Habs would like to work out a long-term deal with Caufield, but Caufield sees no urgency to come to an imminent agreement.
«I love playing here. I love the team and the group of guys. But let's take it one step at a time. I want what's best for me. I don't know when it's going to happen, but there's no rush.-Cole Caufield

But now that Caufield will be out for the rest of the season, could this speed up the negotiation process?
It's hard to say at this point, but it's a safe bet that Kent Hughes will take his time to evaluate the best option for the small forward's clan and make sure he gets a deal that will satisfy both sides.
The Canadiens' number 22 is finishing the last year of his NHL entry-level contract this season and will be an independent player with compensation this summer, unless he can come to an agreement with the organization before then.
Cole's agent also opened up:
Just spoke with Cole Caufield's agent, Pat Brisson, who says decision to pull him now will ensure he's back at 100 per cent for next training camp. As for contract talks, he said they will continue. "We're good."
