Arber Xhekaj sidelined from the Montreal Canadiens' lineup as of next season, against all expectations?

There is a player placed in a controversial position, and it's generating a lot of reactions.
It revolves around the defensive pairings:
Dumont does not include Xhekaj among the team's six regular defensemen.
He explains his point:
"There's a decision to be made concerning Justin Barron, Arber Xhekaj, and Chris Wideman. [...]
However, because Xhekaj is not eligible for NHL waivers, I wouldn't be surprised if he was sent down to the American Hockey League, with the Laval Rocket, to get more playing time.
Wideman would then serve as the 7th defenseman for the Canadiens." - Marc Dumont

What do you think about this?
Imagine how fans would react if Xhekaj had to start the season outside of the Montreal Canadiens' lineup and with the Laval Rocket.
One thing is certain, it's a controversial possibility that is being discussed by more and more experts. Let's hope it doesn't come to pass.
