Announcement in a few minutes: Is Kent Hughes about to bring a familiar face back with the Montreal Canadiens?
BY ELIAS SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 (1:45 PM)
In a few minutes, at 2 p.m. today, Kent Hughes will thus have the opportunity to bring Belzile home, who is extremely appreciated within the Montreal Canadiens organization.
He can truly be an asset to our culture and our young players.
But why bring back Belzile when he just left to sign elsewhere?
Here's the explanation.
Belzile clearly saw the huge congestion within the Canadiens' offense, with all the young players, and he really wanted to try his luck at becoming a regular NHL player.
And we can totally understand him.
However, during the first days of camp, he was already placed on waivers by the New York Rangers and demoted to the AHL (despite a solid game earlier this week).
This was clearly not his plan.
Now that it hasn't worked out with the Rangers and he is on waivers, why not claim Belzile? He could finish the camp in Montreal and then be demoted to the Laval Rocket (if he isn't claimed again).
The logic of the argument is as follows.
Belzile wanted to play for the Rangers, not for their farm team.
And now that he's already sent back to the AHL, something tells me he would MUCH rather play for the Laval Rocket than for the Rangers' farm team.
In any case, a file to keep in mind.
Belzile, 32 years old, scored 15 points in 44 games with the Montreal Canadiens and 26 points in 31 games with the Laval Rocket last season.
Would you like Kent Hughes to find a way to bring him back with the Rocket?
