An imminent trade between the Canadiens and the Oilers? A very interesting rumor coming from Edmonton has just surfaced

BY MARCO    AUGUST 8, 2023  (0:44)
Among the teams that should be contenders for the Stanley Cup in 2023-2024, the Edmonton Oilers are certainly one. Despite their elimination in the second round of the playoffs against the Vegas Golden Knights, Connor McDavid's crew has all the tools to go all the way.

But like every team looking to improve, the Oilers are in search of depth, and as reported by Alexandre Desrosiers of Rumeursdetransation.com, Ken Holland might ask for help from his Canadiens counterpart.

Looking at the projections for the Canadiens' lineup in 2023-2024, center Jake Evans is not considered very important, even though he is a reliable defensive player.

However, his lack of offense could lead him to be placed on the trading block, and that's where the Oilers might intervene.

According to journalist Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal, the Alberta team would be looking for a depth center player who wouldn't be too expensive, precisely fitting Jake Evans' profile.

It comes from an Edmonton journalist, not from Montreal.

We consider Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans a potential candidate for the Edmonton Oilers," according to Kurt Leavins.

Leavins asserts that the Oilers will seek improvements during the season rather than in the free-agent market. Evans, along with Nic Dowd of the Capitals, has both been listed as potential options for the team. - The mug NHL

The Oilers have been one of the best teams in the NHL for a few years now, but occasionally lack depth, and the addition of a player like Evans would solidify the team's center line.

And according to Leavins, Ken Holland would be willing to sacrifice a draft pick or a prospect, but don't expect Kent Hughes to get the moon for the services of number 71.

However, his salary of $1.7 million per year makes him an attractive target for the Oilers, who are currently stuck with the salary cap.
