A young player from the Canadiens about to request a trade to Kent Hughes? It's the promising goalie Cayden Primeau
BY ELIAS SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 (1:11 PM)
This is probably one of the most pressing issues for Kent Hughes to address.
According to him, young Cayden Primeau might request a trade from his GM before the start of the season, at least, that's what he should do.
With Jake Allen, Samuel Montembeault, Casey DeSmith, and Cayden Primeau as goalies capable of playing in the NHL, there's a major logjam, and there's bound to be some discontent.
Here's what he said on the topic:
«It can't work. There's no silver lining. It creates an unhealthy internal competition. Playing for the Canadiens is already a lot of pressure. Now, it's even worse. You can't afford to lose, or someone else will take your spot.»
«There's always someone unhappy in this situation. Even if you have the best guys in the world, it's certain that it won't work. No goalie will be satisfied being third.» - Richard Sévigny

He speaks more specifically about how Cayden Primeau must be feeling right now, as he hasn't been able to secure a spot in the NHL and must be growing impatient.
He now has not two but three goalies ahead of him in Montreal.
«If there are three goalies in Montreal and he finds himself in Laval, I'm convinced he'll want to leave. At least, if I were in his place, that's what I would do. Because with three goalies ahead of him, he'll never have other opportunities.»

A trade request from Cayden Primeau soon? It's certainly a possibility, and Sévigny is well positioned to discuss it.
This will definitely be a hot topic in the coming weeks.
