A few days ago, following Juraj Slafkovsky's body check against Luke Schenn of the Vancouver Canucks, we wrote about how urgent it was for him to learn how to protect himself. He would have to stop putting himself in vulnerable situations sooner rather than later, because he might pay the price soon enough.

In the days following that big check, Slafkovsky was taken care of by Director of Player Development Adam Nicholas. Nicholas taught the rookie how to analyze the game when he is in the corner of the rink.

You can tell that these lessons have paid off! Look at how Slaf handled Josh Anderson's goal on Monday night. It's pretty similar to what he practiced with Nicholas a few days ago.

It's crazy how Nicholas has done a superb job since joining the club. Not only with Slafkovsky but with all the players in the organization.

To see that Slafkovsky listens to the advice and applies it so well, so quickly, is extremely encouraging for the future.
