A new contract under $1.9 million for Jonathan Drouin?

For the past few games, Quebec forward Jonathan Drouin has been playing some good hockey and he is frequently praised by his head coach Martin St-Louis.

Obviously, due to his contractual status, Drouin's future in Montreal is far from clear, and he could really be traded by the trade deadline, but we just came across a very interesting proposal.

What if Drouin signs a new contract with the CH this summer, but at a low cost? A contract worth $1 or $2 million per year.

"Bold statement: if Drouin wants to sign in Montreal at a low cost ($1 or $2 million per year), I would do it and re-sign him."

We love the idea! Right now, Drouin has a lot of pressure on his shoulders and expectations remain high, mainly because of his salary and because of what he cost to acquire.

If Drouin signs as a free agent next summer, that's a different story and it could change the narrative.

And if he earns less than $2 million a season, expectations are sure to be lower, and that's when Drouin could let loose and surprise us.

Anyway, we wanted to share this with you because we really like the idea.

Signing Drouin for another season, at less than $2 million, and giving him one last season to prove himself, do you like the idea?

He's only 27 years old.
