During his mid-season press conference, Kent Hughes came back on the transaction that sent the defenseman Alexander Romanov to the New York Islanders and the Habs GM explained this move due to the fact that there was a surplus of left-handed defensemen in the organization.

And as Alexandre Desrosiers of Rumorsandtransaction.com reports, Hughes may once again be forced to deal another left-handed D in the coming weeks.

Rumours about Joel Edmundson are starting to circulate more and more throughout the NHL, but one well-connected Habs tipster had a surprising revelation about another CH left-handed defenseman.

According to Marco D'Amico of the Montreal Hockey Now blog, Kent Hughes may be trading Jordan Harris in order to add another first-round pick and then pass that pick on to another team in order to acquire a forward or goalie.

This strategy was used in the last draft to acquire Kirby Dach.

But why might Harris be the defenseman sacrificed by the Habs?

According to D'Amico, the organization's other young left-handed defensemen, Kaiden Guhle, Arber Xhekaj and prospect Lane Hutson, each bring a dimension that the Habs could not do without.
Xhekaj's toughness, Guhle's versatility and especially that Hutson could become a true quarterback in the future.

At this point, one could really consider that Harris could eventually be on the market. However, if you ask me, I don't think Kent Hughes will go that route and he should be patient with his young defenseman, who is having an excellent first full season in the NHL.

But I ask the question anyway.
