A big decision about to come down for the future of Shane Wright, and it would be historic

One can say that Shane Wright's first season in professional hockey was quite a tumultuous one.

Selected fourth by the Seattle Kraken in the 2022 draft, and overlooked by the Montreal Canadiens, the young forward started the season in the NHL, before being loaned for a few matches in the American league and eventually being sent back to the junior level.

Despite some beautiful moments, like the gold medal acquired at the 2023 junior world championship, Wright will undoubtedly want to bounce back and have a thunderous 2023-2024 season.

Moreover, there are the comparisons with Juraj Slafkovsky that will never cease.


However, as reported by Keven Mawn, from the website GoNordiques.com, the Kraken organization might have a plan that might not please the young man.

According to Nicholas J. Cotsonika, a columnist for NHL.com, the Kraken's general manager, Ron Francis, intends to request an exemption so that Wright can play in the American league to continue his development.

A decision will be announced shortly.

Since his young forward is 19 years old, he would be obliged to be relegated to the junior level, if he were not to secure a spot with the main team.

Despite this possibility, Shane Wright's main goal is to start the season in Seattle.


It must be admitted that all this is quite surprising, given that just two years ago, all the experts saw him as the top pick in the 2022 draft. But since he is still very young, we will have to wait a few more years before we can draw our own conclusions on Shane Wright's development.
