ILYA KOVALCHUK BECOMES GENERAL MANAGER

OCT 18, 2021  (12H52)      JEFF DROUIN
Ilya Kovalchuk has been appointed as the new General Manager of "Russia" (Russian Olympic Committee) for the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

The team's head coach, Alexei Zhamnov, said it was a logical choice because of his experience with the national team and his extensive knowledge of both circuits (NHL and KHL).

Since we are talking about Zhamnov, who played 13 years in the NHL, he will have as assistants some big names: Sergei Gonchar, Evgeny Nabokov, Sergei Federov and Alexei Kudashov. Heavy stuff, as our French cousins would say.

At the time of writing this short post, we know that Alex Ovechkin, who should wear the "C", Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevskiy will be part of the adventure.

I remind you that "Kovy" won the Gagarin Cup with his favorite coach, Bob Hartley, as well as the Omsk Avangard?

In short, Kovalchuk is still training and he has not officially announced his retirement, but all indications are that he will.
