With the 150th overall pick in the 2021 Draft, the Montreal Canadiens have set their sights on Quebec forward Joshua Roy
. A very intriguing selection from the Canadiens.
Roy clearly could have gone before the fifth round in this draft, but he lacked poise in his overall game. However, the Montreal Canadiens' training camp helped him greatly in honing his skills, especially offensively and in his overall commitment.
One thing is for sure, he has siphoned off everything the organization taught him during camp. He's simply been on fire with the Sherbrooke Phoenix since the start of the 2021-2022 season.
He currently sits atop the QMJHL scoring charts with 12 points, including 5 goals, in 6 games, for an average of 2 points per game. Offensively, he could explode this season, no doubt about it.
As you can see from this footage, Roy is doing a much better job of using the space he has in the offensive zone to get open. He is much more aware of the opportunities he has in THE pay zone.
It's way too early to talk about a steal, but he could definitely skyrocket up the Habs hierarchy if he keeps up this momentum. He is one of the youngest players in his Draft, so the organization will be VERY patient with him.
A great project!UPDATE:Joshua Roy
added three points to his record today in his team's 5-3 win. He still leads the QMJHL in scoring with 15 points in seven games, two points ahead of teammate Xavier Parent
