THE MAPLE LEAFS ARE IN BIG TROUBLE

OCT 16, 2021  (14H55)      JEFF DROUIN
With all the big contracts given to Maple Leafs forwards, Toronto is in a bit of trouble just hours before their game against the Ottawa Senators.

Kyle Dubas' team currently has no room to maneuver under the salary cap. That's why the general manager gave a one-day amateur tryout to goalie Alex Bishop.

In the Leafs' last game, goaltender Petr Mrazek was unable to complete the game after suffering a groin injury. Due to their lack of cap space, the Leafs were unable to recall a goalie from the AHL.

Bishop will be the backup to Jack Campbell for tonight's game against the Senators.

Bishop, a former Saint John Sea Dog, has never been drafted into the National Hockey League. The University of Toronto native has maintained a .922% save percentage in 24 games this year.

If Mrazek's injury turns out to be long term, it will be interesting to see if Dubas will get rid of some contracts as he currently has no room to maneuver.
