A trade offer between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames, involving Jonathan Huberdeau, has just been put forward by TSN.
I don't understand all these experts who tie bad contracts to the CH, but that's indeed what has just happened again.Simon Tsalikis, one of the co-hosts of TSN 690's morning show, just made the following proposal:
Go get Jonathan Huberdeau from Calgary. Go save him, and get him out of there." - Tsalikis
He adds that the Canadiens also have their bad contracts (talking about Brendan Gallagher and Josh Anderson) and he seems to be convinced that there is a possible "fit" between Kent Hughes and Craig Conroy.
Once again, it comes down to the same principle of trading two 3-year problems for a 7-year problem.
TO MONTREAL: Jonathan Huberdeau
TO CALGARY : Josh Anderson + Brendan Gallagher
TO CALGARY : Josh Anderson + Brendan Gallagher
This is TSN's suggestion. Would you do it?
There's a slim chance that it might work and that Huberdeau could become an elite player again by being traded to the Montreal Canadiens, but the risk is enormous for the Canadiens because such a massive contract can really hurt.
«In three years, the team will be ready to win... And Huberdeau could quickly become a burden if he doesn't find himself on the ice.
It's a bit like the rumor that sent Gallagher and Anderson to Los Angeles for Pierre-Luc Dubois. The two cases are similar.. And in both cases, it would have the effect of messing the rebuild we've seen for the past two years in Montreal." - Marc-Olivier Cook, who gets all the credit for the topic.

It's still interesting to talk about, but I highly doubt that it's a feasible trade for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
Huberdeau, 30 years old, from Saint-Jérôme, has amassed 52 points in 81 games this season, including 12 goals.
He earns $10.5 million per year until 2031. $10.5 million per year!
In 2022-23, he collected 55 points in 79 games, and in 2021-22 with the Florida Panthers, he gathered 115 points.
